Mandrill "Mandrill" 1971

It doesn´t get much more better than this! way cool...

Sonja the record loving cat

I remember a couple of years back when going through my collection, all of a sudden there was something odd appearing....

Monica Zetterlund Dutch 7"

Such a lovely little piece, finally managed to get a copy of this rare dutch only record.

måndag 20 december 2010

Guy Warren of Ghana 1968

Pure hiphop style, but back in 1968!!!!, this sleeve was almost 20 years ahead of its time.
UK original and with some fierce frejazz mixed with african rythms and with a solid line-up including Don Rendell,Ian Carr and Michael Garrick.

Flavoured soul 7"

It is not everyday one stumble across a privately pressed swedish soul/rock single, this one is from 1971 and the band based in Lund pressed only 100 copies of it according to the info from one of the band members.
The most intresting about this item is that it by no means sounds like they are amateurs, highly proffesional and this version of "vehicle" is even better than the original.

Bruno Spoerri and his all stars LP 1965

I was really surprised by this swiss jazz LP, magnificent version of "stolen moments", and what a great sleeve!.

söndag 12 december 2010

Trio Tony Vos ep

Dutch jazz at its best!, fantastic jazz and I just love the setting with sax, drum and bas..exploding version of "coming home baby"...

the Sony boy

When I woke up this morning the Sony boy had taken over the stereo.
This plastic guy is from the early 50´s and a family member, my mother got him from her father when he worked at the swedish radio in the 50´s.

måndag 6 december 2010

Franco Cerri Bluesette 7"

Totally unknown 7" from Cerri, this version sounds extremly scandinavian and reminds me a lot of Monica Zetterlunds "att angöra en brygga" great!!

lördag 4 december 2010

The Diddys feat. Paige Douglas LP

Charles Earland production 1977, one of my favourites for over a decade now in the category "timeless tune" , check out "intergalactic love song" and be amazed, groove does not get much better than this!

Collage 1966

This is another example of my fathers works during the 60´s, this collage is made from magazine papers and it is quite big, 100cm X 200cm.
I grew up with this collage, it used to hang over the sofa in our living room and for some reason I think that it in many ways has made a great influence on my way of looking at art and women too....

Jazz poster Philips 1950´s

2 weeks ago at Utrecht record fair and Antique fair I got a chance to see the original print of this rare jazz poster, the price for it was euro 850.

måndag 29 november 2010

Roland Kirk

Cheap record on Supraphon but a remarkable sleeve, laminated and flipback ,just the way I want it...

fredag 26 november 2010

Peggy o´Keefe and her quartet

Exclusively rare jazz from Scotland 1966, possibly the best version of "cubano chant" there is out there.

tisdag 16 november 2010

Miles a Antibes

French original Lp 1963, laminated sleeve and flipback cover, but what an amazing sleeve, the whole composition with the white frame and the fine photo makes this a beauty.

söndag 14 november 2010

Vintage sound

Nothing beats a vintage Reciever from the 70´s in sound and design, I can sit and watch these led lights forever.

fredag 12 november 2010

Mike Westbrook Love songs Deram 1970

This U.K. jazz LP I do consider to be the best from England, such an epic album.
The way they play you can just imagine what a jolly good time they must have had, smooth sound from Dave Holdsworth and Malcolm Griffiths just makes it an outstanding piece. For me the combination of Flugelhorn and Trombone is a winning concept.
In many ways this LP is also a perfect example of British jazz, no other country even come close to the sound or the concept. Beautiful laminated, but I have also had copies unlaminated, wich is the first press does not really matter.
Highly recommended!!

Anders Ekdahl trio EP

Possibly the only ep on this strange label, musically very close to Jan Johansson. I am not sure but my guess is that it is from around 1963 .
Club Le Celeste was based in Malmö and not many jazz records coming from Swedens 3rd largest town.

onsdag 10 november 2010

Svein Finnerud trio LP Plastic sun 1970

Another fine example of a jazz record from Norway, psychadelic sleeve that was just right in the era, one could imagine that it could be a rock LP but it is not.

Acid Jazz news

I can´t believe it is soon 20 years since the Acid Jazz movement had its peak, still remember so clearly when these lovely magazines came by post.

söndag 7 november 2010

Joe McPhee Nation Time

Such an amazing record, fantastic music and what a solid sleeve, it is also very cool that he has been here in Stockholm and played in one of the worlds finest jazz record shops "Andra", this shop I will present to you later.

A goldmine or just a waste of time???

November 2010

Oops, I forgot to mention it is November now.....

fredag 5 november 2010

Girl with the bird

During the 60´s my father experimented in many techniques, here is an oil painting made by him in 1965.
I am going to present other works by him in different styles.

tisdag 2 november 2010

Kjell Karlsen Big Band

One of my top five scandinavian jazz 7", fabolous jazz tune and what a great find for me in Utrecht record fair 3 years ago. "big P" .

Psychedelica blues/ Kjell Karlsen

Top rare Norwegian soundtrack 7" from the 60´s, starting slow but develops in to an almost freeblown jazz thing, too short though.

onsdag 27 oktober 2010

Bo Wärmell/Bertil Lövgren Blue train 1962

Sometimes it is the small details that makes all the difference(no points guessing wich movie that line came from). A rare little 7", but here is the promo copy that was sent out to one of Swedens most famous jazz collectors, at the time working for one of the major newspapers in Sweden 1962. With the original photo taken for the sleeve by Bo Trenter and with the letter and all.

måndag 25 oktober 2010

Willy Lundin

I have no idea what year it is from, maybe around 1970, it is a gatefold flexidisc from Gothenburg and it presents the music of Willy Lundin, mostly talk but also a short version of "watermelon man", not strictly jazz but a nice oddity.

Juhani Vilki sextet

Very odd 7" from Finland, it is from 1965 but the sleeve design feels almost a bit 80´s, 2 great long tunes and the recording is superb and needless to say that the label is beautiful red Parlophone.

onsdag 20 oktober 2010

Bernt Rosengren

This is for me the best jazz ep ever recorded ,that might also have something to do with that I love the movie.
Fabolous playing by Bernt and the scene with the boat leaving for the sea is a landmark in moviemaking in terms of using soundtrack contra picture.

Top 3 rarest Norwegian ep´s

Few people have ever seen them and here they are together....................

Lars Lystedt The Runner

In my opinion if I were to chose one swedish jazz tune from the 60´s this would be it!
Hard driven jazz that any jazzdigger would find amazing.

Dexter Gordon

One of the less known posters for The Golden Circle around 1963.

torsdag 14 oktober 2010

Archimedes badkar

Improvised progressive jazz recorded winter 1973, their debut single, pressed in 100 copies and sleeve silk screen printed. A huge want among jazz and progressive collectors.

Rune Gustafsson

I am wondering how they discussed this 7" in Spain upon release, how to make a jazz record sell in 1969? let´s make a psychadelic flower power sleeve to it and it will sell. However in this case it did not help but it is a nice piece of history and do reflect the era back in the late 60´s.
Only released in Spain on the small label Belter.

Golden circle

When Mr.Starkenberg made the posters for the Golden circle jazz concerts in the early 60´s he used screen print wich cost so much that he made each poster in so very limited edition that they could not put them up except for outside the Golden circle, for most of them he only used black and white colors, therefore this is my favourite one. Lou Donaldson 50X70.

October 10

Just a quick note that we now have October 2010....

Ardy--The painter of love

Ardy Struwer, the Painter of love, you all know the legendary handpainted 7" that he made for an exhibition around 1970, the story is told that it was made in 99 copies copies, however that is not true, he signed 99 copies but there was around 200 copies made, but what is less known is the fact that he also made this matchbox for the exhibition and how many of these survived?. Nice......
During the 70´s we did not have 500 channels to chose from on the TV, this 7" by Berndt Egerbladh is from my favourite crime show in Sweden back in 1977, he used the bassline from Doris´s "you never come closer" to back James Hollingworth singing, no wonder I loved the theme back then and still do.
Top drawing by Hans Arnold on the cover too...

onsdag 29 september 2010

When visiting Tempo, a department store that you could find in almost any swedish city during the 60´s and 70´s, buying records you could walk away with your purchase in this kind of paperbag, hip and cool ain´t it?

Edward Vesala A theme by Braun Astronette

Here´s one that you may find some info about elsewhere on the net, however I just have to display it as I think it is such an intresting gem, released in Finland in 1973 as an advertising record for Braun.
Edward Vesala on drums and those drums are kicking hard, hard funk hammond groove with jazz influences, simply a very nice tune.

Finnish Jazz Gallery The winners 1961

The Winners of the Jazz composition contest 1961 in Helsinki/ Finland.
Åke Granholm´s tune " love all" is brilliant, smooth but yet in the same style as Lars Lystedt´s the runner.
One of the most amazing clubjazz tracks I have heard for a long time.

onsdag 22 september 2010

Egil Monn Iversen Jazz in Norway

Jazz from Norway has always been difficult to find and in terms of rare this one has to be one of the toughest to find.

Johnny Teupen Mälar midnight EP

A totally unknown ep for me, pressed in Norway but has to be considered a swedish record.
I can´t find any info regarding this one elsewhere.

måndag 20 september 2010

Jan Lööf Konstfackjazz Bossanova

When beeing a youngster in the early 70´s in Sweden, I spent a lot of time reading Jan Lööf´s comic albums about Felix, therefore this 7" recorded 1962 feels so special for me.
His childrenbooks are bestsellers and children of all ages love them, too bad his career as a jazzmusician ended with just one single.

Schitzis Jazz The thre B´s

In 1963, Stockholm/Sweden, three 16ýear old guys took a day of school and went into a studio in the "old town" where they offered young musicians to get in the studio and the same day leave with a record in the hand, they recorded this freejazz 7" wich sounds a lot like Charlie Parker" but with one foot in the 60´s american free jazz movement.
It only exists one copy of this record and it is a miracle it has survived.
